Police on Wednesday (Dec 17) arrested a 45-year-old man suspected of being involved in a series of housebreaking cases in Tampines, Simei and Pasir Ris.

The suspect is believed to have stolen electronic gadgets, laptops, wallets and bags from these units.

Police have been receiving reports of valuables missing from tables in these HDB units since earlier this month.

In some cases, items such as a fishing rod, a bamboo pole and brooms were found at these units.

Officers from Bedok Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and reviewed CCTV footage from police cameras installed in these areas, and managed to establish the identity of the suspect. He was arrested on Wednesday (Dec 17) at 9.55pm at Tampines Street 21.

The suspect will be charged in court on Friday for housebreaking and theft by day, which carries a maximum of 14 years' imprisonment with caning.

Police advise the public and all home-owners to:

  1. Never leave valuables and bags near openings in their houses, such as windows or doors that are within reach of outsiders.
  2. Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and/or padlocks.
  3. Lock window grilles before going to sleep or when no one is at home.
