SingTel is always offering free services, such as caller ID and voicemail when you subscribe to a line.
However, these usually last from three to six months.
Thereafter, the telco will start charging you for them.
Busy people who are unable to scrutinise their monthly bills can end up paying an extra $10 to $20 a month for services they may not even require.
The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore should prevent telcos from continuing this practice.
It is all right for them to offer the freebies, so that customers can experience the services.
But these should be terminated automatically when the promotions end; customers have the choice to continue these services if they wish to.
It should not be an opt-out system.
