The sport that he was passionate about ultimately led to Mr Lai Qing Xian's death yesterday.

Two weeks ago, the 19-year-old cheerleader slipped after doing a backflip, which injured his back.

He was immediately sent to the National University Hospital, where he stayed for two weeks.

While his condition was initially stable, it later worsened and became inconsistent.

Speaking at his wake, his older sister, Ms Julin Lai, said he loved being active and that he was happy when talking about cheerleading.
