The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is set to upgrade existing electronic signboards along the expressways and install them at more roads to improve real-time traffic information.

By 2017, LTA will replace 380 existing Expressway Motoring Advisory System (EMAS) electronic signboards islandwide with new upgraded signboards.

Its features will include both text and graphics in up to seven colours to improve the readability of messages, and thus allow motorists to make better informed travel decisions.

The first batch of new signboards is expected to be in operation by the first half of 2014.

LTA will also install 70 new signboards along four arterial roads that are heavily utilised and serve as alternative routes to expressways.

These are:
  • the stretch from West Coast Highway to Pioneer Road;
  • the stretch from Upper Jurong Road to Commonwealth Avenue;
  • the stretch from Geylang Road to Upper Changi Road East; and
  • the stretch from Mountbatten Road to Xilin Avenue
