Seventeen people were injured in a three-vehicle accident along the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) towards the city, near Jurong Town Hall Road, yesterday.

The 7.45am incident involved a Causeway Link coach carrying 60 passengers hitting the rear of a lorry, which in turn hit a private bus in front of it.

Lorry driver Salim Jaafar was sending workers to their dormitories when he heard a long screeching sound. The 52-year-old next felt a powerful jolt from behind. His lorry then struck a private bus in front and spun sideways, hitting a metal barricade and a tree.

“I could see the tree coming towards me and I panicked. I couldn’t do anything. I just held the wheel,” Mr Salim recounted.
