AFC Cup 2012 ..Thailand's Chonburi booked a place in the AFC Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday, while Singapore side Home United crashed out on a busy night of continental football action.

Chonburi progressed thanks to an eighth minute strike from captain Pipob On-mo as they edged past Iraq's Al Zawra'a to reach the quarter-final stage for the third time in four years.

Despite dominating throughout, Chonburi had only the one goal to show for the efforts, Pipob ramming home Therdsak Chaiman's cross to leave coach Withaya Laohakul with mixed emotions.

Meanwhile, Home United exited the AFC Cup after a 3-0 away defeat at the hands of Syrian outfit and competition debutants Al Shorta.

Home got off to the worst possible start when Protectors defender Franklin Anzite turned the ball into his own net with only four minutes gone.

The Singaporeans pressed valiantly for an equaliser, but their efforts finally counted for nothing as goals from Oday Jafal and Raja Rafe in the last 15 minutes of the match helped Al Shorta across the line.

Elsewhere, Al Ettifaq had substitute Zamil Al Saleem for their last gasp 1-0 defeat of Oman's Al Suwaiq.

Al Saleem struck with only two minutes of normal time remaining at the Prince Mohammed Bin Fahad Stadium, a rare bright spot in a game that failed to reach the heights many had been predicting.

In the night's final game, former winners and last year's beaten finalists Kuwait Sports Club downed domestic rivals Al Qadsia 3-1 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at the Mohammed Al Hamad Stadium.
