Two Men Arrested For Theft Of Cash On Board Jakarta-Singapore Flight

Police have arrested two men in connection with the theft of US $5,000 cash on board a Singapore Airlines flight from Jakarta to Singapore.

STOP. HAMMER TIME.
Since February this year, a few cases of passengers’ valuables, especially cash, kept in hand-carry bags stowed in the overhead compartments, were reported stolen. Police immediately follow-up on the cases and alerted the airline and its crew members of the trend.

On 25 March 2012, a crew member noticed a passenger removing a laptop bag from an overhead compartment while on board a Singapore Airlines flight from Jakarta to Singapore. The culprit then went to an unoccupied seat and began searching the bag. He was seen removing cash from a wallet and kept the monies in his jacket pocket. The wallet was then placed back into the laptop bag and returned back to the overhead compartment where it was originally stowed.

The crew member proceeded to detain the 41-year-old male suspect. Cash of US $5000 which was stolen from the wallet inside the lap top bag belonging to an American passenger was recovered. A 30-year-old male who is believed to be an accomplice was also detained. Both suspects were handed over to the police at Changi Airport.

The two suspects’ men will be charged in Court 23 on 27 March 2012 for Theft with Common Intention under Section 379 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. A Court Order to remand them for a week to facilitate further investigations will be sought.
