The Singapore Red Cross has to date received about S$34.5 million in donations from the public, including S$500,000 from the Singapore government.
The Red Cross said this is the second largest amount it has collected for relief efforts, and the largest for a single country.
Among the planned projects is the construction of a multi-purpose hall cum evacuation centre costing S$11 million in Iwate Prefecture's Rikuzentakata city. They will be built in conjunction with the city's reconstruction master plan.
There will also be a temporary care centre costing about S$1.05 million in the Iwate Prefecture's Miyako city.
The Red Cross said it will continue working with the ministry and relevant Japanese authorities to identify more projects which could be funded from the remainder of the donations.
Yoichi Suzuki, Japan's Ambassador to Singapore, said: The Red Cross Society of Singapore is the only organisation among them (which) ... went out all the way to Japan to identify specific projects and place the money in something that will be of a long-lasting nature, which is very unique, which will remain in the affected region as a symbol of friendship from Singapore for a long time."
