Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish wants Joey Barton at Anfield so as to bring the best out of Andy Carroll.

Well aware of the pair's telepathy on the pitch, Dalglish sees Barton as the ideal signing during the summer transfer window.

Dalglish is keen to return a strong British identity to the Reds and Barton's feisty style certainly fits the bill.

Blackburn's Phil Jones, Blackpool's Charlie Adam, Aston Villa's Ashley Young and Stewart Downing and Ipswich's Connor Wickham are among Liverpool's targets this summer.
