Two shops in Sim Lim Square were shuttered on Thursday afternoon (Dec 4), with boxes carried out by plainclothes police officers. The two units were De.Mac Gadget at #01-50 and Gadget Terminal at #02-80.

The General Manager of Gadget Terminal, one of two shops raided at Sim Lim Square on Thursday afternoon (Dec 4), said police (had raided his shop because) there had been many complaints against it.

There have been 14 complaints made to the Consumer's Association of Singapore (CASE) against Gadget Terminal in the last three months, according to the latest consumer alert from CASE.

Mr Gavin Chung, 32, said officers were there for about an hour and seized files, a laptop, a desktop computer, accounts and receipt books, as well as a few mobile phones.

Mr Chung, whose wife is the registered owner of the shop, said he has been trying to work with CASE to contact customers to resolve the disputes.

"Previously, my shop has had very few complaints with CASE, but in these past three months, the number suddenly grew and I wanted to know how to fix the situation."

"I have done my best to resolve such situations. I called CASE and they said they have not been able to contact some of the customers that have complained... if we cannot reach the customer, there is not much we can do," he added, looking visibly emotional.

"Sometimes with price fluctuations, we cannot control the price at which we sell products. Any customers who feel that we have sold them products at a higher price can come look for me and let me know. We have been greatly affected by this."

Mr Chung said he will reopen his shop on Friday but he is worried about the media attention.

He said Mobile Air on the ground floor of Sim Lim Square, which was also raided recently, was the source of bad press for the mall, and he is hoping the scrutiny on his shop will blow over quickly.

"If this case keeps going on, a mountain will be made from a molehill and other shops will be affected as well," he said.
