A man has been arrested following a stabbing in the heart of Singapore's Central Business District on Friday (Nov 14).

Police said it was a case of armed robbery with hurt, and that two men were sent to the Singapore General Hospital following the attack. One of the men was subsequently arrested.

The aftermath of the crime saw part of Raffles Green cordoned off just after 1pm. A trail of blood as well as a knife were seen within the police cordon.

A lighter, handphone and crumpled red shirt were also lying near the trail of blood. About five police vehicles were at the scene.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received a call at 1.07pm and despatched two ambulances to the scene.

A man who was seen talking to police told Channel NewsAsia the skirmish happened at 1.03pm near the Raffles Place MRT station exit. He saw a man following another man "very closely", before he heard a moan. It was then that the victim realised he was stabbed, he said.

The victim shouted, and the attacker grabbed a sling bag off him and ran towards UOB Plaza. The victim gave chase and they got into a scuffle, but the fight was broken up when the attacker was pinned down by two bystanders. Police arrived on scene within two minutes of the man being pinned down.

KPMG auditor Mohamed Nazir Abdul Rahiman helped to detain one of the men involved in the stabbing. He initially thought the commotion was part of a TV production "I thought it was some Channel 8 drama, so I was just walking around the area looking for some cameras and all, but I couldn't see any," he said.

When he cottoned on to what was happening, his police force training in National Service on how to detain suspects came in handy.

"The guy who got stabbed was lying three metres away. He was bleeding profusely, while the other guy I was pinning down - he had some blood spattered over his face and ears, so I didn't know who was in the wrong. But then they were shouting: 'Pin that guy down! He stabbed someone, he stabbed someone!' so I decided to just pin him down."

Mr Nazir added that the man that he detained tried to struggle, but was quite weak and was possibly injured. He also said that a group of women nearby tried to stop his bleeding.
