The Consumer's Association of Singapore (CASE) has invited Tele Infinity and Mobile Alliance at People's Park Complex to sign a Voluntary Compliance Agreement (VCA) to stop engaging in "unfair practices".
The shops have been given a deadline of seven days to sign the VCA, starting from Saturday (Nov 15).
Under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act, unfair practices are defined as any actions or claims that mislead consumers, or exerting undue pressure on them to enter into a transaction.
CASE said on Friday that it has previously met up with both companies and warned them to stop their unfair business practices, but they have refused to do so.
If the companies refuse to sign the VCA, CASE will consider taking out an injunction against them.
The announcement by CASE comes a day after it identified People's Park Complex as having the most number of consumer complaints this year, more so than Sim Lim Square.
Retailers at People's Park Complex in Chinatown have chalked up 146 complaints, while those at Sim Lim Square have had 103.
