At the River Safari on Saturday (Sep 6), 335 ex-offenders and their families enjoyed a day out as part of Family Day celebrations organised by the Industrial and Services Co-Operative Society (ISCOS).
The event is aimed at facilitating closer family ties among ex-offenders and their families. In keeping with the venue, the games and activities revolved around the theme "River of Hope".
"You cannot rewind time. The time that you spend away from our families for whatever reason, you can never get back. Therefore, we need to remind ourselves of the importance of family and the importance of spending time with our children," said Environment and Water Resources Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, who was present.
Fifty volunteers from law firm Baker & McKenzie.Wong & Leow also acted as ambassadors to the families. The firm collaborated with ISCOS to organise the Family Day.
Programmes and services at ISCOS are geared towards enhancing the skills levels of its beneficiaries, linking them with supportive employers, providing social support through positive peer groups and mentors, building stronger family units, and extending academic assistance to the children of ex-offenders to break the cycle of inter-generational offending.
