Alvaro Negredo wants to quit Manchester City for a return to Spain with Atletico Madrid.

The striker, who Etihad fans call “The Beast” scored 23 goals in his first season with City, as Manuel Pellegrini's men lifted both the Premier League title and Capital One Cup.

But Negredo and his family have struggled to settle in England and his form became affected by homesickness and a shoulder injury to such an extent that he failed to hit the target in the final four months of the campaign.

Negredo hopes City accept Atletico’s offer to hand back the full £20m that they paid Seville for Negredo last summer.

The La Liga champions and Champions League finalists see him as an ideal replacement for Chelsea-bound Costa.
