THE technician was supposed to fix faulty card access devices at the National University of Singapore (NUS) graduate residences.

So he had a master access card which allowed him into the rooms. And he used it to steal cash from the students.

Acer Wong Kum Inn, 21, was jailed half a year on Friday for making off with sums of between $640 and $1,050 from four foreign students in August.

He would go to the rooms at University Town when the occupants were out.
