Consumers can now top up their EZ-Link card by using a NFC-enabled phone.
Near Field Communication technology, or NFC, is a short range wireless communication technology that transmits information between a mobile device and a reader.
With the NFC mobile application and a smartphone with NFC SIM-card capabilities, consumers can store EZ-Link's prepaid card accounts on their phone, top-up their electronic purse in real-time and make payments.
The app gives an overview of a consumer's transaction history and balances and allows loading the electronic wallet with any debit or credit card.
A complimentary program enables the electronic purse to be blocked and credit to be refunded if the mobile phone is lost or stolen.
Mobile-wallet technology, which enables payments to be made using a mobile phone equipped with near-field-communication (NFC) capabilities, is generally safe and secure, industry experts said.
But, like other payment methods such as credit cards, the onus is on consumers to protect themselves, they added.
