Legoland Malaysia is almost complete with 90 per cent of the rides and infrastructure installed, said General Manager Siegfried Boerst on Thursday.

When Malaysia's latest family attraction opens on Sept 15, the family attraction will be the sixth of its kind in the world after those in Denmark, Britain, California, Florida and Germany.

The 76-acre (31-hectare) park, which will offer 40 rides is one of the main attractions of Iskandar Malaysia - a dedicated economic development zone bordering Singapore.

Visitors can look forward to seeing the Singapore Flyer, the Merlion, Maybank Building and the Fullerton Hotel - in their miniature Lego brick versions.

"For the past few weeks we have been in the process of putting the final touches to the park by testing the rides, fitting the 15,000 Lego models built out of 50 million Lego bricks, and finalising the theming across the park," Mr Siegfried said.

He also said that three quarters of rides have also been tested and approved.

"Miniland, the heart of all Legoland around the world, is also nearly completed with most of the 12 “clusters” representing 17 areas around South-east Asia approaching completion," he added.

Mr Siegfried also announced that while day passes are presently available only at roadshows and travel fairs, the sale of these will be extended to the online portal soon. However, he did not give details of when this will take place.

To date, over 45,000 annual passes have been sold.

A water park with toddler water play areas and squirting Lego characters is also on schedule to open in 2013, the press statement said.

Asia's first Legoland Hotel - and the world's fourth - is also scheduled to open in 2014 next to the theme park.

Legoland day passes will be sold at the upcoming NATAS travel fair from August 24-26, 2012.
