Police issue alert on counterfeit $50 notes

The police have warned companies here to be on the lookout for counterfeit $50 notes.

It sent out an advisory on Monday to taxi operators, the Singapore Retailers Association and supermarkets after receiving five reports of fake $50 notes between May 24 and last Friday.

Taxi operators ComfortDelGro and SMRT in turn relayed the message to their cabbies to be on the alert. ComfortDelGro drivers were told about this by e-mail; SMRT used its broadcast system to reach its drivers.

In particular, cabbies were asked to look out for notes bearing the serial number 1BM226435.
