La Liga: Barcelona want Valencia's Guaita

With reserve goalkeeper Jose Manuel Pinto turning 37 at the end of the year, Barcelona are eager to bring in another custodian to compete with Victor Valdes for the starting berth. The management at the Catalan club has drawn up a list of possible targets, with Guaita heading the list.

The 25 year-old started out this season behind Diego Alves in the pecking order, but he has since displaced the Brazilian after the turn of the year. A product of the Valencia youth team, Guaita has been credited for being vital in the club's charge for Champions League qualification.

After watching the Spaniard closely throughout the current La Liga campaign, Barcelona scouts are confident he would be ideal not only as competition for Valdes, but also to replace him in a few years time. However, Guaita's contract with Los Che runs till 2015, and it remains unknown if new manager Mauricio Pellegrino is willing to let the player go.
