Man Who Posed As Tenant To Steal From Co-Tenants Arrested

Police have arrested a 32-year-old man who is believed to be involved in a series of theft in dwelling cases.

From 30 January to 15 February 2012, several police reports were made in Jurong Police Division whereby a male suspect, posing as a tenant in response to online accommodation advertisements, would steal the belongings of fellow occupants when they were out at work.

Through extensive enquiries and follow-up investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division managed to establish the identity of the suspect and arrested him at Blk 640, Woodlands Ring Road on 12 March 2012.

Four laptops, some rental receipts, mobile phones, SIM cards, and an assortment of other items believed to be stolen by the suspect were seized as case exhibits.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is also believed to have committed similar offences in Tampines, Aljunied, Pasir Ris and Eunos housing estates. Investigations against the suspect are ongoing.

The suspect will be charged in court on 14 March 2012 for an offence of Theft in Dwelling, under Section 380 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, the suspect may be imprisoned for up to 7 years and shall also be liable to a fine.
