Full-time national serviceman, 20, dies

A 20-year-old full-time national serviceman (NSF) has died after he was found unconscious in a toilet at Bedok Camp on Thursday afternoon.

Efforts to resuscitate Amirul Syahmi Bin Kamal, a Private (PTE) with the 3rd Battalion Singapore Guards, were unsuccessful.

In a statement, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said that PTE Amirul was found unconscious at around 5.30pm.

An army medic went on site immediately and tried to resuscitate PTE Amirul. The serviceman was subsequently evacuated by ambulance to the Bedok Camp Medical Centre, where SAF doctors attended to him.

PTE Amirul was then taken to Changi General Hospital (CGH) and pronounced dead at 6.09pm. An SAF doctor continued to resuscitate him en route to CGH, Mindef said.

Mindef and the SAF have extended their deepest condolences to the family of the late PTE Amirul.

SAF is assisting the family in their time of grief and is investigating the incident.
