900 motorists caught in covert TP ops between Oct and Feb

Some 900 offenders have been caught for disobeying traffic rules during covert Traffic Police operations between October last year and February this year.

Of those caught, beating the red light was the most common offence.

Other top offences include reckless driving, making unauthorised U-turns and not wearing a seatbelt, according to a local news source.

Those caught using the mobile phone while driving can be fined up to S$1,000 or jailed up to six months, or both.

Covert operations involve police officers in plain clothes and some of them are stationed in unmarked vehicles.
