The ministry said the Restriction Orders (ROs) were allowed to lapse as the eight men had been "cooperative and responsive to rehabilitation efforts".
The eight include six members of the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terrorist network, one self-radicalised individual and one Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) sympathiser.
The Restriction Orders against JI members Muhammad Amin Mohamed Yunos and Muhammad Arif Naharudin lapsed on Nov 8 last year, while those against Adnan Musa, Andrew Gerard, Fathi Abu Bakar Bafana and Halim Hussain lapsed yesterday.
The RO against self-radicalised individual Mohammad Taufik Andjah Asmara lapsed on Dec 4 last year, while that against MILF sympathiser Faizal Khan Gulam Sarwar lapsed yesterday.
Separately, the ministry released Muhammad Zamri Abdullah from detention on Dec 5 last year after he was assessed to "no longer pose a security threat". However, he still has certain restrictions placed on him.
The ministry said Muhammad Zamri, who was detained under the ISA in December 2007, "had cooperated with investigations and made good progress in rehabilitation" while in detention.
He had been self-radicalised through radical propaganda in publications, videos and the Internet, and had attempted to make arrangements to participate in militant jihad overseas, said the ministry.
