Poon Wen Mei, 31, assaulted her Indonesian domestic helper in a flat at 459, Upper East Coast Road, at around 1am on Feb 23 last year.
Poon, who is unemployed, had confronted Ms Sunarwati, 26, and asked if she had used her kitchen scissors to trim a pair of trousers. When the maid denied that she had done so, Poon became angry.
She grabbed Ms Sunarwati's hair and used the scissors to lop off a portion of the maid's locks - bruising her scalp in the process.
Poon also pleaded guilty to cheating a cashier at the BHG department store in Bugis Junction on July 23 last year.
She had swapped the price tags of several items, including two hot water bottles. Poon paid only about S$8 for them, even though the items were actually worth more than S$100.
Poon also admitted to shoplifting about S$300 worth of goods from an NTUC FairPrice supermarket in Tampines Mall on Feb 22 as she did not have enough money to pay for them.
She has been sentenced to 43 days in jail and fined S$1,500.
