A MAN who head-butted and stepped on his girlfriend's two-year-old daughter on the abdomen was sentenced to 12 years' jail and 12 strokes of the cane on Tuesday.
Mohd Azhar Ghapar, 30, had also ill-treated Sri Alyaniz Nazri on several occasions when the child was under his care at her Bukit Panjang flat in October 2009.
The court heard that each time the child vomited or messed up the flat, he would punch, pinch or slap her, causing her unnecessary physical pain. On one occasion, he gripped her arms and thighs, punched her on the abdomen hard and threw her on a mattress.
The child died four days after she was admitted to hospital of traumatic brain injury on Oct 14, 2009.ORIGINAL SOURCE
