Deputies and U.S. Border Patrol agents went to a home about 9:35 a.m. after someone reported a 30-year-old man was breaking out windows, northeast of Lynden.
When confronted, the man reportedly hit a deputy in the head with a hammer.The man was then shot. It was not immediately clear which agency's officer shot the suspect or how many shots were fired.
The wounded officer, whose identity was not released, was taken to St. Joseph hospital for treatment.
