Fatal hit-and-run driver arrested after public tip-offs

SINGAPORE - A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run along Keng Lee Road on Saturday morning.

The suspect, behind the wheel of a van, had allegedly hit a 58-year-old cyclist along the road near the KK Woman's and Children Hospital and fled the scene.

Police were informed of the incident at around 6.50am. The Chinese victim, who had sustained multiple injuries, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene at about 7.15 am.

Following tip-offs from two members of the public, the Traffic Police managed to locate the van at a Woodlands carpark and arrested the driver in a four-hour operation.

Motorists involved in an accident and who flee the scene are liable to a fine not exceeding $3,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, if convicted.

In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, offenders can be given a fine not exceeding $5,000 or jailed for a term not exceeding two years.
