Biker leads police on high-speed chase in Choa Chu Kang

The incident began when the motorcyclist, who is believed to be in his 20s, was waiting at a red light at the traffic junction between Bukit Panjang Road and Upper Bukit Timah Road.

A traffic policeman who was on his routine rounds stopped his bike next to the motorcyclist.

He noticed that the man, who was in a long-sleeved white shirt and white trousers, seemed nervous and was behaving suspiciously, and told him to pull over.

But the man did not. Instead, he sped off, sparking the pursuit.

The traffic policeman set off his siren, signalling to the motorcyclist to pull over.

But the rider simply went faster and even beat a red light at one point in his bid to escape.

He rode so recklessly that his Singapore-registered motorbike skidded as he neared the front of Block 9, Teck Whye Lane.

The man eventually jumped off his motorbike and fled on foot.

He evaded capture despite being pursued by several public-spirited passers-by and the policeman.

Police investigations are ongoing and no arrest has been made yet.
