The Singaporean man hurt in the grenade blast in Bukit Bintang is in stable condition at Hospital Ampang, after doctors removed almost all shrapnel from his body.
"We had a difficult time removing the foreign objects because most of them were very small. They were less than 0.5 cm," said Dr Helmi.
Mr Wong Kim Teng, 67, is one of 12 people injured after a pre-dawn blast outside a nightclub on Thursday (Oct 9). The blast also killed one man.
Doctors did not remove two pieces of shrapnel in Mr Wong's body - one near his left knee and the other, on his arm. The one near his knee was left untouched as it is near a joint, while the one in Mr Wong's arm is near a blood vessel.
Dr Helmi added it was "medically safe" to leave foreign objects in a person's body - especially if they were of this size.
Dr Helmi said Mr Wong is stable and has been put on antibiotics. He was unable to comment on when Mr Wong could be discharged.
