Whether you have a new Perodua or a Ferrari, the wheels on each corner are most likely to be alloy rims with a nice design and finish.
Unlike steel wheels, which may have plastic covers that can be cheaply replaced if scratched or damaged, alloy wheels are more costly, so drivers usually have to park cautiously in case the wheels rub against the kerb.
‘Wheel rash’ is the term used for the scuffing caused when the wheel has rubbed against the rough kerb and depending on how hard the impact has been, it can be just scratches or the surface at the edge of the rim becomes like moon rock. Certainly heart-breaking for any driver and the wheel has to be reconditioned if possible, or replaced if the owner can afford to do so.
Now there’s a product which can help prevent this heartache and it’s such a simple idea that you will wonder why no one came out with it earlier. It’s called ‘RimPro-Tec’ and promises to ‘defend rims with style’.
The way ‘RimPro-Tec’ protects the rim is to stick a very tough plastic tube on the circumference of the rim. The tube is the part which will get damaged but it can be replaced easily – at much less than the cost of changing the rim.
The plastic tube can be stuck to virtually any rim that has at less 6 mm of flat surface from the edge. It uses a thoroughly tested 3M adhesive tape that we’re told is guaranteed not to come off even at high speeds, all kinds of weather conditions and after a long period of use.
Made in factories in the USA and New Zealand, The tube comes in many different colours (as inserts) to match the body colour, wheel colour or, if the owner prefers, to be ‘highlight’ the wheel. For example, a yellow sportscar with black wheels could have a blue ‘RimPro-Tec’ tube installed.
‘RimPro-Tec’, which won an award for being one of the best new products introduced at the SEMA show in America, is already on sale in the USA, UK, France, India, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand. More information can be obtained by writing to info@paintshieldasiapacific.com.
