Singapore International Triathlon attracts 2,000 participants

About 2,000 participants took part in the Singapore International Triathlon 2014 held in and around East Coast Park on Saturday (Aug 16).

Around 70 elite triathletes competed for the International Triathlon Union Asian Cup. They swam a distance of 1,500 metres, cycled 36 kilometres and ran a 10-kilometre race.

First across the line for the Asian Cup Elite Men category was Australian Courtney Atkinson, with a time of 1 hour 49 minutes and 52 seconds. Fellow Australian Drew Box missed him by just a sliver, clocking in at 1 hour 50 minutes and 10 seconds.

With a time of 2:06:54, Clement Sheng was the first Singaporean to finish the race.

In the women's event, Japanese Kuramoto Aoi came in first with a time of 2 hours 4 minutes and 3 seconds. She was followed by China's Zhong Mengying, who clocked 2 hours 4 minutes and 48 seconds.

Winona Howe was the first Singaporean to finish the Elite Women's race, clocking 02:30:30.
