Louis van Gaal is ready to show Nani the door in order to solve Manchester United’s defensive crisis.

The new Old Trafford boss is desperate to land Sporting Lisbon and Argentina World Cup star Marcos Rojo after sloppy goals cost his side in a 2-1 defeat against Swansea on the opening day.

And United are confident they are now closing in on a deal that will see them fork out £16million AND send the Portuguese winger back to the club where they signed him from in 2007.

United failed to land Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels or Thomas Vermaelen, who joined Barcelona from Arsenal.

Out-of-favour Portugal star Nani potentially holds the key to the deal going ahead. His lack of consistency has convinced United the time is right to offload him.
