More than 20 coffeeshops in Geylang have had their beer licences revoked over the last eight months, for repeatedly flouting liquor licensing rules.

Channel NewsAsia understands that some shops sold beer beyond the permitted hours, while some shops that were licensed to sell only beer had been offering other forms of liquor as well.

One coffeeshop has seen its daily earnings plummet from S$4,000 to S$1,200 since its licence was revoked on Jul 16.

Several stalls which lost their licence have even closed down.

The owners can still try to get their licence back, by appealing to the police. Some coffeeshop owners have also attended classes on how to deal with drunk and disorderly customers, who they believe were partly responsible for their establishments losing their licences.

These coffeeshop owners hope attending such classes can help with their appeal to get their licences back.
