Two sisters-in-law went door to door, pretending to collect donations for non-profit group Willing Hearts.

They fooled 79 victims, collecting about $1,000 in about a month before they were caught.

The two had designed and printed two forged donation collectors' certificates.

One of them also got a printing company in Malaysia to print 50 booklets of 100 receipts, which were then stamped with Willing Hearts' logo and address.

Their scam was eventually foiled on May 19, after a suspicious resident called Willing Hearts, which in turn called the police, who nabbed the women at the foot of an Ang Mo Kio block.

Yesterday, Santha Devi Lingam and Kamisah Shaik Mohamed were jailed for their offences committed in May this year.

For the record, Willing Hearts is a 100% volunteer-run, non-profit organisation set up to help provide for the needy in Singapore, regardless of race or creed. They operate a soup kitchen that prepares, cooks and distributes about 3,000 daily meals to the needy including the elderly, adults and children in Singapore.
