He was drinking at an uncle's home in Woodlands Drive when he received a call that a loan shark was harassing another uncle.

Fearing for his uncle's safety, sales engineer Ng Hwa Lee, 34, ran to the man's block nearby - where he saw someone walking out of a lift.

Mr Sim Beng Hui, 22, who was about to send his girlfriend home, sported tattoos on his legs.

Ng immediately assumed that Mr Sim was the loan shark because of his tattoos.

He attacked Mr Sim and ended up slashing his left hand with a kitchen knife that day, April 24, 2011.

The sales engineer was jailed for seven months on Tuesday (Sept 24) after pleading guilty on Monday to one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to Mr Sim.
