Balestier Khalsa claimed the first major piece of silverware in their history on Saturday after claiming a dominant 4-0 victory over DPMM FC to win the Starhub League Cup.
In a game at the Jalan Besar Stadium that they were always in control of, the Tigers overcame an early injury to Ruhaizad Ismail and took the lead in the 15th minute when captain Paul Cunningham planted a firm header into the back of the net.
Four minutes after the half-hour mark, their lead was doubled after Kim Min-ho pounced on Rodrigo Tosi's headed clearance and sent a sumptuous volley past Wardun Yussof, before the result was all but secured in the 68th minute when Poh Yi Feng scored on the rebound after Qiu Li's initial effort had been dropped by the opposition keeper.
Nonetheless, there was still time for Balestier to add a fourth three minutes from time when Tengku Mushadad, racing onto Park Kang-jin's through-ball, advanced on goal before colly slotting home to cap off a majestic performance from his side.
Saturday's victory means Darren Stewart's charges remain on course to complete a domestic cup double as they are also in the win the RHB Singapore Cup, with a semi-final tie against Home United next on their agenda.
