2nd man in Mother’s Day parade shooting arrested

A second suspect was arrested yesterday (May 16) in the New Orleans shooting that injured 20 people at a parade on Mother’s Day, police said.

Shawn Scott, 24, is the brother of 19-year-old Akein Scott, who was arrested Wednesday night in the shooting, police Chief Ronal Serpas said.

Both face 20 counts of attempted second-degree murder, and Mr Serpas said investigators believe the Scotts worked together in the shooting.

Besides the Scotts, Mr Serpas said police arrested four people who are accused of helping Akein Scott elude capture. Mr Serpas said their charges are being accessories after the fact to attempted second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. They range in age from 19 to 32, he said.

Police have not established a motive. Officials initially said three people were spotted running away from the shooting scene, but Akein Scott had been the only suspect identified publicly until his brother’s arrest was announced yesterday. AP
