THE DODO BIRD BECAME
EXTINCT BECAUSE IT HAS
NO SPACE TO THINK.
In the coming six months, buyers of small cars (those below 1,600cc) will have about 15 per cent fewer Certificates of Entitlement (COEs) to vie for than in the six months between August and this month.

There will be 667 Category A COEs each month between Feb and July, compared to the 786 COEs each month between August, last year and January this year. This is likely to send COE premiums - which recorded seventh consecutive increases in the past few months - up for the price-sensitive buyers, industry players say.

But even as the number of available car COEs is cut back in the next six months, the number of available COEs for the following classes of vehicles will be increased.

Goods and commercial vehicles will see 451 COEs each month, about 25 per cent more. Meanwhile, there will be 1,012 COEs for motorcycles, 13 per cent up from the current 894.
