Judging for the annual Singapore Hawker Masters awards has begun, with the panel of judges starting their rounds of tasting with lontong.
Over the next few weeks, they will sample food from the top stalls in six categories. The finalists were determined by more than 14,000 public votes.
Apart from the Malay dish of steamed rice cakes in coconut gravy with vegetables, the judges are also looking for masters who serve the best bak kut teh, carrot cake, yong tau foo, prawn noodles in soup and Indian rojak.
The finalists for lontong are:
Nusa & Tara, ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre, 01-22
Makmur Restaurant, 218B Changi Road
Afghanistan Family Restaurant, Block 201E Tampines Street 23, 01-56
