A 63-year-old Frenchman was sentenced to nine months in jail after being extradited from Germany for cheating a Singapore casino two years ago, a report said Tuesday.
The Straits Times newspaper said Reynald Georges Victor Lasnel, another Frenchman and a
Spaniard conspired to distract casino staff and slip in bets when the
roulette ball was about to land on the winning numbers.
They won a total of S$13,400 ($10,900) in April 2010 but were caught after another patron tipped off the casino staff.
The trio managed to flee Singapore while out on bail following their arrest but Lasnel was nabbed at Frankfurt airport in January with the help of German officials and the global law enforcement group Interpol.
The Singapore Police confirmed Tuesday that Lasnel was extradited to the city-state on September 11 after being held in a German jail after his arrest.
Reynald Georges Victor Lasnel pleaded guilty on Monday to cheating
the then newly opened Resorts World Sentosa at roulette tables in
connivance with two other Europeans, who are still at large.
He had already spent eight months in a German prison while awaiting extradition but Singapore prosecutors urged the period not be taken into account in the sentence for cheating, the report added.
