Police Nabbed 4 Suspects for AMK Snatch Theft

Police have arrested 4 men aged between 19 to 34 years old for suspected involvement in a case of Snatch Theft committed at the vicinity of Blk 512 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8.

On 20 July 2012 at about 9.00 pm, a 48-year-old female victim was walking home from Ang Mo Kio MRT station after withdrawing some money from the ATM.

While walking along the void deck of Blk 512 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8, an unknown male suspect came from behind and snatched away her sling bag which she was carrying.

Due to the sudden attack, the victim had a fall and the suspect managed to flee with the victim’s sling bag containing cash and valuables total worth about $500. Some residents spotted the injured victim and rendered assistance before alerting the police.

Following the report, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division explored all the leads and established the identities of four suspects believed to be involved in the case.

One of the suspects was eventually arrested in the vicinity of Blk 106 Hougang Avenue 3. Following his arrest, three of his other accomplices were arrested within the next 6 hours.

The suspects will be charged in Court on 1 August 2012 for an offence of Snatch Theft with common intention under Section 356 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, each faces a jail term of up to 7 years and shall be liable to caning.
