A drunk Jetstar passenger who urinated in a plane aisle, allegedly spraying a man’s leg and a woman’s scarf, has been let off by the airline with a warning.

The incident is said to have happened on an Auckland to Singapore flight on Monday, about six hours into the 11-hour flight.

Amos Chapple, a passenger on the flight, has criticised the airline for the “slack” way it handled the incident, questioning why the man was only given a warning and why the Singapore Police were not called to intervene after the plane had touched down.

He told the New Zealand Herald: “We were sitting next to a pool of urine for a good five and a half hours. You couldn’t see a puddle but you could tell it was there. It was pretty outrageous.”

The drunk man was allegedly seen drinking whisky with a friend before the flight took off, the New Zealand paper reports.

Jetstar confirmed in a statement that “there was an inebriated passenger who engaged in inappropriate and disruptive behaviour”.

“We can confirm on this occasion, our crew followed all standard procedures including confiscating alcohol brought on board and issuing an onboard warning in conjunction with advice from the captain.”

The budget airline said police were not called as the passenger was no longer disruptive after receiving the warning.

“As per our standard procedures, an internal report has been filed and we are following standard internal process including reviewing the customer’s future suitability for travel.”

Jetstar said it was contacting customers affected in the incident and is offering compensation.
