A 52-year-old man was arrested on Aug 7 for allegedly stealing a mobile phone in the National Library on Jul 28.

The man allegedly stole the mobile phone worth $900 from a 21-year-old woman.

The woman was seated on a sofa and had placed the phone on top of a stack of books beside her.

She later discovered it to be missing and reported the loss to the police. She also informed them that she had spotted a suspicious man loitering around. The man had approached her to pick up an object.

The police officers were able to get a description of the suspect from the woman and were able to get images from CCTV footage that the library provided.

They were, however, unable to discover his whereabouts. Fortunately, security officers from the library spotted him on Aug 7 in the library, and immediately called the police.

He was arrested and investigations reveal that he may be involved in another similar case of theft.

If found guilty, he can be charged with jail term of up to three years and/or be fined as well.
