Police have arrested a 26 year-old male Chinese and his 16-year old accomplice for planning to commit a series of goldsmith robberies.

On August 6, at 6.53 pm, an LTA Enforcement Officer stopped a motorcar travelling along Kallang Road for a routine check but the driver sped off, resulting in a vehicular pursuit.

The motorcar was later found abandoned along North Bridge Road.

A bag containing balaclavas, hammers, several pairs of gloves and baseball caps was found in the vehicle and seized.

Following extensive police investigations, officers from Central Police Division managed to establish the identities of the driver and his passenger.

An operation was mounted to trace the whereabouts of the suspects.

On August 7 at 4.35 pm, the duo was arrested at Chai Chee Road.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the duo was intending to commit robberies of goldsmith shops.

The two suspects will be charged in Court on Wednesday with engaging in a criminal conspiracy to commit robbery.

Any person convicted for the offence faces a jail term of up to 10 years and caning of not less than six strokes.
