A businessman who passed away recently left $500,000 to Queenstown estate in his will. He had lived there for more than 50 years.

Mr Luo Jing Jian, 100, died a month after celebrating his last birthday with other elderly residents.

The retired trader passed away yesterday morning at 9am. Due to his health conditions, he had been in and out of hospital.

Mr Luo's son said his father came to Singapore from China after World War II to start a business. He settled down in Queenstown and formed a bond with the estate.

He is one of the sponsors of one of Queenstown estate's medical centre.

Two years ago, he sold his two-year-old Mercedes and donated $118,500 to the medical centre.

He has donated over $367,000 over 11 years to the medical centre.

Mr Luo's son said his father was a strict man who had very high expectations of his children.

He also taught them to have a good character and told them that it was important to be fair and just when doing business.

The Queenstown medical centre's in-charge said Mr Luo had always helped the poor and needy frequently. One of the centre's clinic is named in his honour.

Mr Luo was reportedly a loving man who was very good to his maid, and even adopted her as his god-daughter.
