A woman and her son have been arrested for using their old address to apply for illegal loans.

The suspects, aged 50 and 29, were arrested on Monday in the vicinity of Sengkang Square.

They are alleged to have used their former address to borrow from loansharks, which resulted in the loansharks harassing the current owners of the home.

Investigations revealed that the duo had failed to report the change of their residential address, which is an offence under the National Registration Act.

They each face up to five years in jail and/or a S$5,000 fine.

If found guilty of providing false contact information to borrow from loansharks, they could be jailed up to 12 months each.

Investigations are ongoing.
