Singapore suffered its first defeat to Malaysia in eight years, going down 0-2 in the second leg of the Causeway Challenge on Tuesday night.

Negeri Sembilan striker Ahmad Shakir broke the deadlock in the 19th minute, flicking in Norshahrul Idlan's left-wing cross with his head. Captain Safiq Rahim then doubled the hosts' lead near the hour mark with a 20-metre free-kick special.

While the match was only an international friendly, joyous scenes broke out among the 25,000-strong crowd at the Shah Alam Stadium.

The Lions' best chance fell to veteran striker Aleksandar Duric in the first half, but he sent his shot straight at Malaysian goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi from 15m out.
