Postpone trips to Thai south: MFA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) is advising Singaporeans to postpone non-essential travel to Thailand's southern provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla for now.

This comes after car bomb blasts in Yala and Hat Yai, which led to the fire at the 405-room Lee Gardens Plaza Hotel, where 10 Singaporeans were and whom the MFA has established to be safe. It has been in contact with 21 others who are also safe. [Ref]

Singaporeans who need to travel to these provinces are advised to monitor local news and developments and take all necessary precautions for their safety. They should also buy comprehensive travel insurance.

The MFA said that it is continuing to monitor the situation in Hat Yai, where one of its officers is providing consular assistance to affected Singaporeans and determining if there are other Singaporeans who may need assistance.
