One-stop service for all police-related licences has started

With effect from 2nd April 2012, the Police Security Industry Regulatory Department (SIRD) and the Police Licensing Division will be merged to form the new Police Licensing and Regulatory Department (PLRD).

It will regulate all the licensing regimes previously under the responsibilities of SIRD and the licensing division.

The SIRD was the regulatory authority of the private security industry.

The Police Licensing Division issued and administered licences and permits for public entertainment, liquor, massage establishments, second-hand goods dealers, private lotteries, house-to-house and street collections, as well as arms and explosives.

The police said the setting up of the PLRD will allow for the provision of a one-stop service for all police-related licence applications and also provide for greater synergy and ensure better consistency in areas of policy formulation, licensing processes and enforcement actions for all its licensing regimes, except traffic-related licences.
