New bus hubs for commuters at 3 locations

Three major bus stops have been expanded into bus hubs four months ahead of schedule, the Land Transport Authority said on Monday.

The three bus hubs at Bedok Reservoir Road, Woodlands Centre Road and Commonwealth Avenue West get bigger bus bays which can can allow up to three single or double deck buses, or two bendy buses to berth in the bay simultaneously.

This reduces the average time each bus needs to dwell at the bus stops. Previously, the bus stops could each only accommodate up to two single or double deck buses or one bendy bus.

The LTA will complete expansion works at four more bus stops with high commuter traffic at Upper Serangoon Road, Victoria Street, Yishun Avenue 2 and Marine Parade Road by end of this year.

Expansion works for the remaining 28 bus stops are expected to complete progressively beginning from the fourth quarter this year, and all works are expected to complete by end 2013.

The LTA will continue to monitor the usage of other bus stops and review the need for expansion where necessary and feasible.
